PARISWHO 2022

Social Media and Public Health: Friend or Foe!

The second virtual Paris WHO simulation, titled "Social Media and Public Health: Friend or Foe!" took place on September 10th, 17th, and 24th of 2022. During the event, 30 participants from 20 countries seized the opportunity to engage in vigorous discussions on how to handle misinformation and disinformation regarding social media's impact on public health. The first day's speakers were Jessica Mudry (Associate Professor and Chair of the School of Professional Communication), Monzur Morshed Patwary ( Senior Programme Manager, BRAC), and Blandine Derycke (M2 student in Public Health Policy and Programmes) who talked mainly about the current state of social media and public health.". On the second day, Dr Ahmad Firdaus Mohd Haris (Advisor and Founder of Medical Mythbusters Malaysia), April Brubach (Deputy Director of Health Communication and Education at the U.S. FDA Center for Tobacco Products), and Kentaro Iwata (Infectious disease specialist at Kobe University in Japan)had discussed their field experiences in managing social media. The final day event centred on the future implementation of social media on public health by Dr Chris Voegeli (Behavioral Scientist at the US-CDC) and Dr Ian Brooks (Director | WHO Collaborating Center on Information Systems for Health).

PARISWHO 2021

The Effects of Climate Change on Mental Health

The first virtual ParisWHO simulation took place on 25-26th of September 2021. The event gathered 71 participants from 38 countries who broke into vigorous discussions to find solutions to battle the detrimental effects of climate change on global mental health. Day-one speakers included Dr Sarah Lowe (Yale School of Public Health), Julia Rothschild (Climate Psychiatry Alliance), and Dayoon Kim (Stockholm Environment Institute Asia). Day-two speakers were N. Charles Hamilton (The Bahamas’ National Climate Change Committee), Dr Suzanne Babich (Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health), Dr Pascal Crépey (EHESP), and keynote speaker Dr James Conley Thomas (University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health).

Maternal & Child Health

The ParisWHO simulation 2019 was held on 20th-22nd of September on the EHESP Paris campus. This event gathered 43 students who participated in the lively discussions on “Maternal and child health: Maximizing Women's Potential and Transforming Children's Future”. Guest speakers included Dr. RAFIK BEDOUI (Handicap International), MARIELLE BOUQUEAU (Ministry of Health), LAUREN INGRAM MUEENUDDIN (Reproductive Health network), SARAH DALGLISH (Independent Researcher), CHARLOTTE DUFOUR (Nutrition expert - Narayan), ARIANA STAHMER (UNESCO), DR. SIMEONE YANMEER TYOTSWAM (Medical Doctor)

and DR. NOLWENN REGNAULT (Santé publique, France).

Environmental Health

The third edition of the ParisWHO simulation took place on November 16-18. About 160 participants, staff, and volunteers from 25 different nationalities and 60 universities gathered at the Sciences Po and EHESP campuses to participate in the simulation. Guest speakers included Laurent Chambaud and Alessia Lefebure (French School of Public Health), Sophie Gumy (World Health Organization), Jerome Salomon (French Ministry of Public Health), Philippe Damie (French Permanent Mission at the UN), Mathilde Pascal (Public Health France), Hannah Leckie (OECD), and Armelle Hebert (Veolia Foundation)

Health and Migration: A World Beyond Borders

The ParisWHO simulation 2016 edition was held on 23rd-25th of September on the EHESP Paris campus. This event gathered 140 students from 14 countries and 36 universities who participated in the lively discussions during the 2.5 days conference on “Health & Migration”. Guest speakers included Dr S. Santino, WHO Venice, Dr Maria Melchior, MSF Paris and a great refugee witness.

Health and Innovation: Challenging Health Inequalities and Creating Sustainable Development

The first ever ParisWHO simulation took place on September 25-27 and was hosted at the Universite Pierre & Marie Curie, offering a beautiful 360 view of Paris. This was the first simulation of its kind to be held in the beautiful city of Paris and organized by EHESP students.
